Career subsequent to MSc Built Environment (Facilities Management)

Peter Gatang’i started his career in 2003 as a Mechanical Engineer for Ekootech in Gaborone, Botswana and gained vast experience in contracting for mechanical projects with the Department of Building and Engineering services (DBES). During this period, visits to manufacturing plants in Europe provided valuable insight in quality assurance, technical expertise and an in-depth understanding of the latest manufacturing technologies and standards available in the industry. He was subsequently promoted to General Manager in 2006 and managed the business affairs for the firm including setting up and opening a branch in Lusaka, Zambia.

After studying for a diploma in Project Management, Peter decided to relocate to SA where he joined Carifro Consulting Engineers as a consultant in building services. He has been involved in the design and implementation of mechanical services to numerous government construction projects in the Eastern Cape Province. Notably, he has been appointed as team leader in charge of maintenance management of mechanical engineering contracts with the Department of Health, Cacadu Region.

Qualifications obtained are BTech. Production Engineering, (Kenya) in 2002, NDip. Project Management (Damelin) in 2007, MSc. Built Environment-Facilities Management, (NMMU) in 2010. He is also a graduate member of the IEK and BIE and awaiting registration confirmation with ECSA.
